Jenny Hart is the founder of Texas-based Sublime Stitching, an independent design company recognized for pioneering the new wave of design for embroidery. Jenny is an internationally published artist/illustrator, an award-winning author of numerous titles for Chronicle Books and a founding member of the infamous Austin Craft Mafia. Unable to find cool embroidery designs with an updated aesthetic (anything other than bunnies and teddy bears), Jenny launched Sublime Stitching in 2001, taking embroidery in a new direction: with hip, updated Embroidery Patterns and the first customizable all-in-one Embroidery Starter Kits. Also dismayed by stuffy and difficult-to-decipher instructions for newbies, Hart added a unique angle to embroidery education that has entertained and enticed a new generation of stitchers to hold a needle and thread for the first time. Sublime Stitching's innovations with embroidery were met with worldwide attention including The Wall Street Journal, Entreprenuer Magazine and hordes of loyal crafters, thankful for something to stitch -other than geese in bonnets. Jenny's exploration with embroidery began with her own embroidered works , which have been exhibited and published throughout Europe, South America, Mexico, and Japan. Her art has been featured in zines and publications that include SPIN, JANE, Juxtapoz, Rolling Stone, BUST, ReadyMade and Venus. Her hand-embroidered portraits are included in the collections of the Roger Miller Museum, actress Carrie Fisher, comedian Tracey Ullman and Elizabeth Taylor. Jenny's work includes collaborations with the bands Flaming Lips, The Decemberists and The Octopus Project (because embroidery rocks). Jenny lives and works in Austin, Texas, where she runs Sublime Stitching full blast, but not without the help of a dedicated staff. And, she tries to embroider every day...do you?
