Stitch It Kit: RIP

Oh, dear. I don't know how to tell you this. Something kinda great, and kinda not-so-great has happened to the beloved Stitch-It Kit, the first embroidery kit I wrote, stitched and illustrated for Chronicle Books. What's great is, all (and I mean all) of the remaining copies were purchased directly from the publisher by a distributor in the UK. People, that's a lotta kits to buy (somebody really loves embroidery). But, the bad news is, Chronicle Books isn't prepared to re-print a new run of the Stitch-It Kit (no one was expecting all those kits to get bought up like that) and now they're all gone from us and them. Only retailers who currently hold copies have them.

The good news is: there are still copies out there. We just don't have any of them ourselves (I'm clutching my one copy a little tighter now). If you want one before this kit goes the way of the dodo, I highly suggest you track one down via eBay, Amazon or your local bookstore.

Maybe the Stitch-It Kit is destined to become a rare collector's item. But hey! Even though the Stitch-It Kit had many unique things about it, we still have my original embroidery starter kit right here: Ultimate Embroidery Kit.

Sniffle!

no more procrastinating

I've been cross stitching for forever, and I've always wanted to try embroidery...... but apparently I am lazy and the stitch-it kit has been languishing on my amazon wish list for, like, a year. This post motivated me enough to finally purchase it. I can't wait for it to get here!

Spotted: The Stitch-It Kit

Hi Folks...
So, a couple weeks ago I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping, and I stopped into TJ Maxx. As I was making my final purchases and leaving the building, I glanced at a display near the exit doors and - lo and behold - there were about eight copies of the Stitch-It Kit! I was surprised and delighted! It was like finding a beautifully decorated (but well-hidden) Easter egg. I already own a copy so I didn't cave at the moment...but I'm happy to know they're still out there, and now that I've heard this news I might have to see if there are any left that I can snatch up...just because! Long story short - if you live near a TJ Maxx or Marshall's, take a little look-see in the housewares section (or, you know..the displays by the door) and you just might find an extra copy of the Stitch-It Kit. : )

Really? That is such a funny place to find that!

Ahh!

Like the other posters, the Stitch-It Kit was also my entry into stitching. Well, I did a patch for my Girl Scout quilt when I was 9, but I don't think that really counts. :) I'm headed to Amazon to see if I can snag some of the remaining copies to keep on hand for the perfect gift.

So glad that apparently they were popular enough for the UK company to go bonkers on buying them all. It really is a great little kit and I still use the box for things.

Alas! The Stitch-It Kit

Alas! The Stitch-It Kit taught me to embroider, and I've given them as gifts before. I'll just have to horde mine now.

The Stitch-it Kit started my

The Stitch-it Kit started my love for embroidery! It was the first book/kit I'd bought and I still love it. I keep all my floss and such in there still... even if it no longer closes fully. It's crazy that they are now all bought up! Thank you for making such an inspiring product. :)

Found one!

I was fortunate enough to find a Stitch It Kit at Strand Bookstore in NYC (they sell used books). The box was open, but everything was inside, still unused. Talk about lucky!
