Jenny's Embroidered Blythe Dress

Are you familiar with Blythe Dolls?

They were first introduced in the 1972 by Kenner but they didn't take off and were pulled after just one year. But in 1997 New York photographer and video producer, Gina Garan, was given a vintage Blythe from a friend, and she began snapping photos of her doll in her surroundings around the world.  In 2000, Gina published her first book of Blythe photography with Chronicle Books, This is Blythe, and later that year Hasbro started making the dolls available again in the U.S.

Gina is holding a dress drive to raise money for Manna Energy, an organization that supplies clean water to children in Rwanda, and she requested that Jenny embroider a plain white Blythe dress for auction. Click here to see how sweet it turned out! And, you can bid on Jenny's embroidered dress right here.

Handmade Help for Australia

Photo: William West/Agence France-Presse -- Getty Images

We have loads of dear, crafty friends in Australia, and the heartwrenching news of the deadly fires affecting so many, is devastating. So, in an effort to help, from now until February 18th, with every Yoga Journal or Cute Little Heads embroidery pattern you buy, we'll donate 25% of the proceeds to the Victorian Bushfire Appeals

Jenny will also be donating one of her embroideries to Outre Gallery for a fundraiser to benefit those affected by the fires.

For more information and other ways to help, check out the Meet Me At Mikes blog.

Fred Flare Valentine Benefit

How great is Fred Flare? They provide some of the cutest, coolest, most dynamite gifts online and in their new Brooklyn shop, maintain a juicy gossip blog (that I embarrassingly follow daily), and have hearts of gold. Currently they are requesting handmade Valentines to benefit Elder Craftsmen, a NYC organization that brings craft workshops to local senior citizens.

Above is the Valentine Jenny created. Sooooo sweet huh? You can see it up close on our flickr page, and you can buy it for $4 during the last week of January at Fred Flare!

Inspired? You can submit one too! This is how it works: You create a Valentine and mail it to Fred Flare at 300F Kingsland Av, Brooklyn NY 11222 by January 15. They hang it up in the store / sell it online for $4. And all benefits go to the Elder Craftsmen program! Easy.
