Wonky Donkey

From My Collection

My heart aches a little every time my eyes fall on this little wool donkey made from scrap fabric. I found him at an Amish quilt market years ago. He can barely stand up straight. His stitches are crude and coming apart in some areas (probably from too much love). He is so sweet and off-kilter I can hardly stand it. Can you? I'm powerless against this kind of helpless-looking, handmade toy.

Gimme That Olde Tyme...

♥ From my collection ♥ Something extraordinarily wonderful turned up in my mail. It was a gift from my great friend Faythe Levine -a machine embroidery sampler. It says "Old Time Embroidery" but it looks like it's pretty old already! "Okay...I'd like my first name in pink and then I'd like my middle initial in blue and then my last name in yellow and can you do a heart? And then I'd like some scrolly bits all around and..." What would you have them embroider for you?

They Are Rich...

    ♥ From My Collection ♥ Okay, so this is my grandma's embroidery! This cross-stitch was worked by my Grandma Hart who was born in 1896 (yes, you read that right). She lived next door to us from 1979 until 1996 (reaching the age of 99 1/2). She had been a Nebraska farm-wife and probably stitched this in the 20's or 30's. It sits on my desk, right in front of me.     I have always loved the bright, rainbow colors she used for each individual letter.
