Blackwork is not for the faint of heart (although, is it still 'blackwork' when it's redwork?). I'd say so. Not familiar with blackwork? It makes use of extremely detailed patterns of stitches that follow the grid of the fabric. And, because it's traditionally worked in all black, the various patterns create the illusions of areas of gray and shading. But ain't nothin' says you can't work it in other colors or motifs, like I spied Alexcateye doing over on Flickr! Don't forget to consult the Sublime Stitching Glossary for terms and definitions (I'm always working on it!).
